Portrait Professional v5 and earlier need to be able to access our server to process a picture. A small but vital part of the processing is done on our server to protect against piracy. If you have a firewall installed, it may block Portrait Professional from working.

To allow Portrait Professional to work, it needs to be able to access the Internet using the standard HTTP port 80.

Your firewall may require that you specify which domains an application can access. Portrait Professional v5 and earlier need to be able to access these domains:

http://www.portraitprofessional.com/
http://bprocessor.anthropics.com/

The following provides further information about some of the most common firewalls.

Microsoft Windows XP firewall

This firewall does not stop Portrait Professional from working.

ZoneAlarm firewall

When Portrait Professional attempts to contact our server you should see this message pop up from ZoneAlarm:
"Portrait Professional Application is trying to access the internet".
Choose Allow and select the box "remember this setting".

If the pop-up doesn't appear, it's because you have chosen not to get those types of alerts. In this case, you will need to follow these instructions:

  1. double-click the ZoneAlarm icon on the bottom right of your screen, or click "program files" "zonealarm" and "zonealarm security".
  2. Click "program control" on the left hand side, and then you can see a list of programs installed on your computer.
  3. Go through the list looking for "Portrait Professional" and next to it will be four X symbols or check marks.
  4. Click on the second of these symbols and choose "allow".

This will allow Portrait Professional to access the Internet. Now you can exit from the ZoneAlarm application and Portrait Professional will be enabled to use the Internet.

iSafer firewall

Open port 80 for all applications or, when prompted, choose to allow access for Portrait Professional.
