Why pets?
They give you unconditional love, they don't drink your beer, they don't borrow money, and they are always glad to see you....I guess you could say they are the perfect family member or friend.

RE: why we need pets
People love their pets, and for that reason I have considered lately getting into some pet portrait studio photography, but I have to admit to having little experience in how to do it. YouTube offered a few videos that were helpful, but most were snapshot oriented, and I wanted better than that. Of course there are no schools or books where one can get info on this, so I suppose everyone just needs to learn on their own. Any ideas from the class?
Now, since this is a forum where we discuss the wonderul PP program, have any of you tried using this program on pets, specifically the hair smoothing capability? I have not, but I suspect it would give some elegant results on certain long haired dogs such as spaniels or setters. I would be interested in seeing some before/after shots if any of you have toyed with this application. Thanks.

RE: why we need pets
Thanks, Roscoe. You picked out some super pet portrait sites. I've looked at everything on the first three so far and am impressed. I guess if I'm going to do any of this I should start at home with my own long haired dachshund, that is if she'll be still long enough to get some portraits.
Using PP with an animal could be interesting. I'm sure sculpting a pet's face would not be desirable, BUT using the mouth controls couldn't you give a somber looking pet a bit of a pleasant smile? I would especially like to try the hair controls. When I do I'll be sure to post the pictures here. Go ahead . . . beat me to it!

RE: why we need pets
Here I am again . . . answering my own inquiry. I dug through my photo archives and found a snapshot of LadyBug, our long-haired dachschund. Here are before and after shots.
I tried PP in hair smoothing mode to fill shadows 50% and smooth 100%. Those may be excessive effects, but I wanted to see what the software would do for a pet. While in the Hair mode I added some red, giving a more realistic result than the washed-out looking original. The necessary cropping was also done in PP.
